Science is one of the greatest subjects for inspiring young minds to explore, test, play and ultimately create. And the way that children learn and scientific method have a lot more in common than most people might think.
For the past 10 years I have ventured in and out of the various education systems: home schooling, online schooling, private schooling and most recently public schooling.
In naivety, I sought an “ideal system” of education for my now 12-year-old son; the cons of one system driving me towards the pros of another.
I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no single faultless and flawless education system. The strengths of one system cannot always be brought into the mix and fold of another system’s organizational structure.
There is only one me. There is only one you.
The words I say, the words I write belong to me; as do my desires, ambitions and talents, as do my shortcomings and frustrations. Your words, desires, ambitions, talents, shortcomings and frustrations, belong to you. …
When the identity of my body flickers and the last ember dies, I must answer only to myself. And when your lifetime is over, you must answer to none other than you.
I recently heard an excellent podcast (audio recording) “Getting an Education on the Internet,” Sept 22, 2009 regarding online schools vs. traditional brick and mortar schools. Although the talk was focused on Higher Ed (college), I felt it an applicable discussion for all Education in general. …
Without a radical change to our entire capitalistic society, I don’t think K-12 teachers need to feel threatened about technology replacing them. Instead, I recommend they embrace and utilize it to make their already difficult lives a lot easier.
This infographic was shared with me to shed light on why some system, like “Common Core” was needed for American students. I thought it well done and it does shed light on why CHANGE was needed. Now, whether or not all of its parts and workbook questions are sane is another debate. But, I think you can see from these statistics, that an overall change was required. The question now becomes: Where do we go from here?
Tweet A powerful and beautiful video founded on solid truth. Either video version below ( prezi-like presentation or video) is created using the same Spoken Word. Tweet It doesn’t matter whether your child or grandchild is being home-schooled, in private school, in public school or other –these standards will affect his/her entrance into college, their necessary entrance tests scores, and even the classes they take within college. This :40 minute video is a VITAL watch. You will see interviews from some […]
As part of my Masters of Education, I took a Teaching and Learning Theories class. I wanted to see what a homeschool scenario would look like if you applied leading Academic Teaching and Learning Theories from Education Psychology to it. I learned how to make my first screencast, video and prezi with sound. Admittedly, it’s a bit rough, but I’ll get better.
YouthMUSE thanks our guest blogger Erika Schmidt and her insight into Child Care Centers:
“Have you ever envisioned your child in the future?
What would he be like or where would he be?
It is quite a challenge for every parent to establish that future. However, there always is a start for every success you wish your child to achieve, and it all starts in Child Care Centers. “
I’ll get the usual lecture: “I’m out-of-touch with reality, no child should waste “all day” playing video games.”
Talk about a waste—she’d lost an hour of her short life in useless slumber while I had built an entire village from dirt to dome, enriched an economy, created cathedrals and manufactured my monuments.
Children will tell you the problems and their brilliant solutions if you bother to survey and really listen to them. You actually have an advantage of finding the truth as they have fewer filters on their mouth. All good marketing technology has you locate your exact public, survey them for what they need and want, then package the material in such a way that it fits their needs. Marketing technology works for all fields, including Education. How to package and label (title) any action in Education is as important as the packaging and labeling a product in the business world.
The virtual K12 curriculum has made a key marketing and learning process blunder. This blunder is actually preventing full application-based learning.
This same mistake could be made in any school setting, by any educator, thus this article.
